Flu Vaccination for the over 50yrs

You may have heard in the news today (20/11/20) that all patients aged over 50 years old and not in a clinical at risk group will be able to have the flu vaccine free on the NHS from the 1st December. We ask that you please do not contact us at the moment to book an appointment as we are not able to vaccinate you until 1st December and we are still awaiting for the vaccines to be delivered.

We of course welcome this extension to the seasonal flu vaccine programme. Studies have shown that the flu vaccine will help prevent you getting the flu. It won’t stop all flu viruses and the level of protection may vary, so it’s not a 100% guarantee that you’ll be flu-free, but if you do get flu after vaccination it’s likely to be milder and shorter-lived than it would otherwise have been. This will be especially important this year due to the COVID pandemic.

We are still awaiting additional stocks of the flu vaccine for those Pts aged over 50yrs old and we will be able to offer the vaccine to these patients from the 1st of December but not before then. We will contact you to arrange an appointment for your to come & have your flu vaccine if you would like over the coming weeks, so there is no need to for you to contact us.
